Almost every surface and object in this kitchen is swathed in every imaginable shade of orange. But the homeownertook great pains to make sure the element of surprise is provocative, yet tastefully refined.

Unusually enough, the couple who own this 5-room flat were not too concerned about creating more space. What more, they had move from a larger apartment to this 110 sqm unit. Homeowners generally like their homes to look as large as possible, but this wasn't a priority here.

home ideas - replaced part of one wall of the master bathroom with a glass divider"What they emphasised instead was good utilisation of space". So He made sure he played with space interaction, or "developing the right angle for inter-linking the rooms".

You can sculpt the view from each room so that the owner gets an aesthatic view of the next. This not only opens up the rooms and makes it feel larger, each individual space feels likes an integral part of the overall look.

From the bedroom, you get a good look into the living room, and from the dining room, a striking, aesthetic view of the kitchen. We even replaced part of one wall of the master bathroom with a glass divider, so that you can catch a glimpse of the vanity area from the bedroom. This allows the naked contemporary of the bathroom - with its glass and wood-clad walls - to flow into the bedroom. Both rooms remain light and airy in atmosphere.

home ideas - from the bedroom, you get a good look into the living roomIn the bedroom, light bars were set into the ashwood platform and headboard "to give the room a soft, intimate feel. The low-set lights cast a very warm glow around the bed and is very relaxing."

Concealed lighting is featured in the dining area as well. Here, an L-shaped light bar illuminates the transparent dining tabletop from beneath and continues up the on one side, landing afuturistic feel to the space. The sophisticated glass-on- white dining set is cosy enough for family meals yet large enough to seat seven. This is the definite plus for the owners who enjoy entertaining occasionally.

Pointing out the recessed display ledge forming the backdrop of the dining area. "We were going for an art gallery feel." Well-placed downlights show off art pieces while the ledge hides storage space bellow.

Beside the dining area is a study corner. He points out that the vertical blinds neatly demarcate the space from the rest of the room and add to the play of light and shade. "We wanted to use the right materials to create the right ambience."
The overall white-and-glass colour scheme blends harmoniously with the light parquet floors and is a winning combination that has been carried over into the kitchen.

home ideas - the cooker hood are done away with, which leaves the kitchen looking streamlined and neat"Most young couples don't do heavy cooking nowadays. So the kitchen just needs to be functionally enough for light meals." As a result, bulky items such as the cooker hood are done away with, which leaves the kitchen looking streamlined and neat.

Raw touches such as the cement screed walls and warm colours on the vaneered cabinets keep the otherwise pared-down style interisting and inviting. "Everything has to kept in balance. Neither too wild, nor too plain and simple!"

Home Ideas : Yesterday No More

An old, dreary three-room flat is unrecognisable after a complete face-lift.

Home Ideas - use of modern iconic designs, versatile space planning, ample storage, and the and strutured design lines
Many people do not realise the potential of an older apartment because revamping something so passe seems very difficult, expensive, and even pointless. Yet, we took on the challenge of refurbishing this old, once-boring three-roomer flat, and turned into a dazzling, cutting edge space.

The considerable use of modern iconic designs, versatile space planning, ample storage, and the and strutured design lines make this three-rooms flat perfect for the young and design-conscious.

The minute you step in, you will be blowed over by the winsome settings, lush furniture and elegant accessories. Unlike most apartments where the living room is boxed in, the designer freed the area somewhat by breaking down the walls of the study and guestroom.

This allows the living area to flow into the guest bedroom, creating extra entertainment space when required. Sliding glass doors and white roller blinds ensure greater privacy in the living room, which can double up as a home theatre that seats ten comfortably.

A large L-shaped cream sofa with black and tofee Fendi Casa cushions creates an inviting spot, while the opposite wall function as a screen for movies that roll from a suspended multi-media projector.

Oakwood flooring complements the mature, sophisticated style while sensor floor lights run along main corridors to minimise falls or midnight accidents.

Walk into the master bedroom and you'd be clamed by its sense of peace. The classy oakwood bed head and the large and inviting bed complement the white washed walls. Created purely as a chill-out space, this room is uncluttered to ensure a spacious feel and a good night's rest.

Bathrooms - Zen Gardens : Bright & Beautiful

This bathroom makes a perfect pairing with soft and greenery.

bathrooms ideas - this bathroom makes a perfect pairing with soft and greenery
The master bathroom of this semi-detached home could have been all hard edges and cold industrial style with its monotone colour pallete of black, greys and sleek reflective surfaces. But it isn't strategically positioned at the front of the home on the second floor, the generous flow of sunlight streaming in works to soften the hard architectural edge of the design. A green border of swaying bamboo further enhances that bright, airy feel and impart a Zen-like air of calm.

"The plans help to break the monotony of the home's front facade and the minimal enclosure makes sure the bathroom's always naturally ventilated".

Bathrooms Ideas - effect of the sunlight filtering through the bamboo into the bathroomNot sealing up the main light source of the bathroom made all the difference instead, a mirror is suspended lengthwise between the plants outside in the planter box and the bathroom, provideing privacy from road traffic and allowing light to come in. I especially like the effect of the sunlight filtering through the bamboo into the bathroom. The vanity countertop is similarly suspended so as not to block the full decorative impact of the bamboo, with its peeble border. At night, soptlights shining up from the base of the plants create a romantic mood.

Using a clever play of sunlight, shadows and lighting, I managed to lift what would have been just another cold designer space into one infused with natural beauty and comfortable warmth.
